Video Hangover: Mötley Crüe – “Smokin’ In The Boys Room”
Every week, we dig in the archives for videos that we find noteworthy, memorable, or just unbelievably stupid. And then, Jon McMillan breaks ‘em down for you. Why Video Hangover? Because when you watch as many videos as we do, you’re going to feel it afterwards.
“Smokin’ in the Boys Room”
Mötley Crüe, 1985
Rockers vs. teachers. Guess who ends up wrapped in toilet paper?
This week in video politics: Mötley Crüe kicks a disgraced, closeted hypocrite while he’s down
“I wish somebody could see my side of it,” (former) Idaho Senator Larry Craig says, upon being arrested for suspicion of lewd conduct in a men’s room. But this time, instead of being whisked away by an undercover cop, he is summoned through the mirror by four long-haired, leather-clad, more-androgynous-than-they’d-like-to-admit young men, one of whom is hung like a horse and will pretty much stick it anywhere, no questions asked.
Production notes:
Making a difference, one student at a time
Based on an unscientific analysis of the QYDJ archives, approximately 92% of all teachers moonlight as indie rockers. Back in the ’80s, however, teachers weren’t so cool. They dressed funny, wore bad hairpieces, and hated fun things like rock, and music, and rocking to music. Luckily, men like Vince Neil and Nikki Sixx weren’t afraid to stand up and show those squares how to cut loose. They didn’t have time for “classes,” or “books,” or “rules.” Sure, they might have set public education back 50 years, but we probably couldn’t have won the Cold War without them. Eat it, Stalin!
