The industrial-tinged synth-pop track “Nuclear Seasons,” by UK artist Charli XCX, is one of the year’s more memorable singles in its vein. Its hook sticks, its production steeped in darker but stepped back in the mix, so Charli can rule the mix. Balam Acab is a logical remix partner, especially after you’ve absorbed the visuals of Charli’s video, its VHS aesthetic, wolves, and superimposed triangles. Young Alec Koone starts it sounding like Sia, pulls down the BPM and XCX’s vox, and flips the production from the gritty industrial realm and into his own pretty, chirping, syrupy prism.
