All in all, I found there to be a few staggering great albums in the '13 lot. Some instant classics from Daft Punk, Vampire Weekend and even Queens of the Stone Age. Some seriously great albums from old stalwarts like Bowie and Valentine who managed to surprise us all again. Some great debuts ( as much as I don't like Savages of Disclosure, there is no denying there at least doing something of note) and 1 immensely overrated record (I'm sure we all know what that would be). But, there's no accounting for taste. One man's garbage is another's treasure. So, 2014 has LPS from=
Beck
U2'
The Horrors
Tool
Warpaint
Broken Bells
Smashing Pumpkins
Sunn O)))
St. Vincent
Kaiser Chiefs
Elbow
The War on Drugs
and....
uh...311 :p
Well, thanks for the random access memories '13, and to the good ol' Gum for bringing it to us. Happy new year fellow gummers. Here's to '14 and some great GREAT music ahead :)
I don't get Frank Black hiring these trendy female bassists. It's like dating girls who look like your ex. Kim Deal is 50% Pixies. Without her, just retire gracefully.
Mogwai know how to tear it up, heavy style. ''Batcat'' is a great example. But I love when they can be haunting and poignant. I couldn't imagine true Mogwai fans not being moved by this track. It's a beauty. It's an album I'm excited for!
Yeezy also said (according to Pitchfork):
"We ain't Jewish. We don't got family that got money like that." That's classic stereotyping there, and really irresponsible. He should certainly apologise for that.
Well, certainly some of my favourites on the list. Personally, I think Random Access Memories deserves number 1. I think it will truly be a landmark organic-EDM album in years to come. Deafhaven deserve their number 2 spot, so well done. Disappointing that Queens of the Stone Age didn't make the list for their excellent ...Like Clockwork. Ditto for Arctic Monekys AM. Oh well. Good list. Here's to even greater music in 2014 :)
Man, this song is tight. Best Mogwai song since anything I've heard off of The Hawk is Howling or in some ways, Rock Action. The video doesn't seem to have much rhyme or reason but works for what it is, very ominous. So far, a new Mogwai song favorite and I wouldn't be surprised if the whole album proves to be a new Mogwai masterpiece based on this track and ''Remurdered''.
As a Mastodon fan, I sincerely doubt that there was a hint of racism in the shirt. Mastodon aren't imbecilic to such a low brow degree. It can be debatable that the shirt isn't in the best of taste, but it's not racist. The band Dying Fetus has a shirt that says ''Rape your dog, kill your mother''. Be nice to hear some outcry on something like that, to be honest.
Deer everywhere have been complaining about their depiction on Mastodon's last album cover

Talented gal for sure, but she just can't be in the Pixies universe-only Kim can. They should retire the Pixies banner and preserve the legacy if Kim is replaced yet again.
The motherload! The list to end all lists! I'm pleasantly surprised. Great list and a strong case for the top 5 in that order. I was prepared to be horrified at the possible impeaching of Revolver at the hands of rock journalists, but the case for Sgt. Pepper is a great one. Well done Chris.
@Rubberjohnny, You cross the line from somewhat fun pet troll to keep on the board, to you're completely disgusting-lose all respect for you- put on permanent ignore type of troll.
Saw his guilty plea live here in England. His crimes and mindset are unthinkably horrific. Prayers for the healing and future welfare of his victims and prayers that his punishment is justice duly served.
Best song- Touch by Daft Punk
Best album- Random Access Memories by Daft Punk
Best TV show-Breaking Bad
Best Video- Afterlife by Arcade Fire
Best music site- Stereogum :)
Ben, I hope you're being facetious :) The message/integrity of the video speaks for itself in fine storytelling form and it doesn't need band faces to make it mean something more. One of the top videos of the year in my humble opinion.
