I found this pretty heartbreaking, and Billy Corgan brought up a lot of great points regarding the struggles of growing old in the music industry. Whenever I see an older artist play a show, I have to wonder what it is like to have all these fans see you, but few care about anything you did outside of your 20s. Beyond the fact that few want to hear your new songs, how mundane is it to play the same songs for 20 - 40 years. Sure, there are a few artist who can pull it off, but most are stuck playing the same song.
I remember reading a biography about Kurt Cobain, and how he used to dread playing Smells Like Teen Spirit, because he was just sick of it. That was only 3 years, what happens after 20 years of playing songs like Disarm. Sure, as Corgan mentioned, many get off on their fan's enjoyment, but still, that has to be rough.
I recently saw Neil Young, in which he played an hour long set comprise of maybe 6 songs, jamming around the whole time. He was playing some older songs, however none of them were hits. As a big Neil Young fan, I though the concert was amazing to say the least, however most just shrugged it off as "well that was interesting". It got me thinking, what if he did the same thing back in the late 60s/early 70s? I am of the opinion that it would be considered one of his more legendary concerts. Since so many people have expectations for him to play Heart of Gold, etc., his innovations go unnoticed because he is old news. The worst part is that he is a legend, what is it like for bands like The Smashing Pumpkins, or Pearl Jam, who used to be so tremendous and are now jokes for many?
Why did you say Sufjan? Is there a chance Sufjan Stevens is playing at Coachella? Oh man, I would sell my girfriend's cat if it meant that I could see Sufjan Stevens again.
This album is extraordinarily good, and although I think DIIV's album is great, I think Ty needs to be rewarded for his growth as a musician.
I was pretty sad that more attention was not paid towards The Henry Clay People's new album, which is just amazing (I like it better than Celebration Rock -heresy? maybe). All in all, I could not agree iwth you that Ty's prolific nature an growth definitely won him AOTW this week.
I have no opinions on Deadmau5's music, or the skills it takes to make his in comparison to David Guetta or Skrillex, however the "But it’s like talking about slavery at a fucking blues concert. It’s inappropriate.” line really got me.
Maybe it was inappropriate for Madonna (MDNA?) to make the Molly comment, comparing an artist making a joke (or more likely trying to relate) to the issues common with EDM crowds. On the other hand, it is in now way comparable to making a joke about the history slavery and torture to a group of people whose ancestors (going by the Deadmau5 assumption) were forced into these lifestyles, and such a comparison is beyond absurd. Did he seriously just relate recreational drug use and slavery?
I felt the same way about TV on the Radio's best track being "Staring at the Sun". Great song, just not my pick for their best in the 2000-2010 period.
Simple Song should have been higher on the list, that video is just fantastic. Also, (as a Jew) I had higher expectations for HYFR, but maybe that is just bitter jealousy that my Bar Mitzvah was not nearly as cool.
I feel like if they were going to obviously rip off the song, they could have at least tried to add the same emotion when they say "I will watch over you". The above just sounds like a boring cover of the original. On the other hand, the commercial is pretty moving with the song.
To be honest, I was kinda sad that I See A Darkness was changed to 4/4 time, and the tone was changed so dramatically. It used to be such a perfect song, and now I feel it has lost a lot of the original feeling that made it so heart breaking.
So I really hope they do this during Outside Lands. Either way, I always wonder how bands feel about playing their older songs. Imagine if your fans could not give a damn about anything you have done since 1991. I just read about this, it is pretty sad, but expected. Rolling Stone mentioned that he was too sick to go to their inauguration into the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame, and was also the reason they got actors to play them in their last music video. Still heart breaking.

Holy shit, thanks for telling me about this festival. How can you seriously say no to Girls, No Age, The Weakerthans, Japandroids, Ty Segall, Strange Boys, Olivia Tremor Control, Explosions in the Sky, OFF!. Definitely considering the 5 hours drive for this.

I really believe Cass McCombs can do no wrong. This is such an amazing song, and I love how reminiscent of political folk from the 60s. Although indie folk really hit its stride (as in it became ridiculously popular) in 2007 and 2008, I hope the political folk movement can come back.
The band is amazing (one of my favorite to live bands), however I was really disappointed with Be the Void. Although it is not a bad album, it only has a few really great songs. I felt that Shame Shame was just leagues ahead of Be the Void. With that said, I am absurdly excited to see them again at Outside Lands
While looking through the collection, I could not help thinking about how Thomas Jefferson's book collection was so large, that after the Library of Congress burned down in 1815, he sold 6,500 books to them for replacements, some of which are still used today: Jefferson's two-volume 1764 edition of the Quran was used by Rep. Keith Ellison for his swearing in to the House of Representatives.
Although I assume the Library of Congress has most, if not all, of these records, I am always amazed how extensive these personal collections are, and what will happen to them after Peel passes.
The navigation on the website is amazing, and the details regarding the album are amazing (pictures of the front, back, and inside sleeve. The only thing I could ask for is a picture of the record itself, and I cannot give a compelling reason for why, I just want to see it out there.....

Michael is at least interesting, I seriously read through all of his long rants, because they are well written. RubberJohnny is predictable and boring, like most trolls. I would take Michael on a tantrum any day of the week over RubberJohnny.
This is definitely a grower of an album. To be honest, I (who knows little about metal) feel the album is not original enough to truly astound me, and has nothing truly original enough that I could differentiate it from other albums made in 1995. Sure I can here the CoC influences (it does remind me of Wise Blood), but feel that the mastering of the album takes away from any of truly genius moments, having drowned out all of the instruments, or maybe Spotify's just low quality..... Either way, based on my first listen, I just do not feel like this bring enough to the table to truly differentiate it from so many other metal albums out there.
I guess I can agree with the "no such thing as a true cover" to an extent, however there is no question that there are original takes on covers, and those that feel like covering artist is not contributing. A great example of this would be Jimi Hendrix' version of "All Along The Watchtower" or even remixes, such as Wise Blood's version of "Someday". To be honest, even Rod Stewart's version of "Downtown Trains" was exceptional given that he changed the feel of the song. There are also cases where nothing has changed song wise, except the singer, and even then, the difference is so small, the cover feels flat.
Sadly, a number of artist do not have control over who get's permission to cover their track (the record company does). Even those that do have a right to be disappointed by the outcome. Think about it this way, Gotye could have been expecting something more original or a completely different take, something Glee has done many times in the past.
I can agree that a cover is not meant to be a carbon copy, however many do come off that way, and when they sound close enough, but off, I imagine it can be very frustrating for the original artist. I do not know the Glee version, so I cannot judge in this case, but I do know many artists have their singles ruined by someone singing the song as close to possible. I do not know how The Who felt when Fred Durst sung "Behind Blue Eyes" but I cannot imagine they were all that impressed; it sounded more like a poor karaoke version of the song than a true cover.
Edit: I just listened to this version, and although not bad, it does not feel like a real cover. Although I do not like the version so much, Glee's "I Want to Hold Your Hand" was more of a cover, given it was an original take, than this.
I can respect Gotye in this case. He is not complaining about Glee in general, but rather how they performed his song, believing that they did not do it justice. Although it may have propelled the single, it is not wrong to wish that the best version of the song was put forth. I know many musicians get pissed off when the radio fucks up the EQ on their songs, even though they are getting free publicity, so I can only imagine how someone would feel when their biggest hit is "ruined" in front of a wide audience.
Although far from the best, Heavy Metal Drummer makes me ridiculously happy every time I hear it. Radio Cure is my favorite, every time I hear the line "Oh, distance has no way of making love understandable" breaks me heart.

My biggest disappointment was missing The Black Angels, are they worth seeing live (beyond their cover of The National Anthem)?
As for your review of M83, it was spot on. One of my favorite acts from Coachella, and I was also saddened that so many people left after Midnight City, especially because Colours was so outstanding live. To be honest, that was a really big issue throughout the festival: The whole crowd would disperse the minute they ended their hit song. Gotye's entire crowd literally left after "Somebody that I used to know" which was kinda sad.
I really do not see why anyone downvoted you. There is no question that OK Computer is a phenomenal album, and could easily be considered one of the best of the decade.
Even the b-sides/additional session recordings from this album are extraordinary. If you have not checked it out, I highly recommend listening to Circa 1762.
