Also, let's not forget about this 2008 interview, in which X say's things like...
'Wow, Barack! The n___’s name is Barack. Barack? N___named Barack Obama. What the fuck, man?! Is he serious? That ain’t his fuckin’ name. Ima tell this n___ when I see him, “Stop that bullshit. Stop that bullshit” [laughs] “That ain’t your fuckin’ name.” Your momma ain’t name you no damn Barack.'

Absolutely seconded. Criminally underappreciated band--those two albums are minor masterpieces in my book. I didn't know him or anything, but he was an extremely inventive guitar player, that's for sure. Very sad loss.
also, a theory: perhaps Ronnie James Dio (aka RJD) isn't dead but in fact faked his death and is now making beat-oriented electronic and hip-hop music under some clever psuedonyms: Aphex Twin (aka Richard D James aka RDJ) and RJD2
searching for the upside down dio logo lead me to this page and its amazing comment section.

here's wishing CDUKSHN and cima were SG commenters.
Hi Freshie, I just wanted to say the way you used those smileys reminded me another one of my FAVORITE artists, Lauren Muli. Keep on doing what you're doing!!!!!! Love it.
This comes up in the sidebar as "The Kills Cover Velvet...," on my browser, and though I figured it was VU, part of me perversely hoped the headline was "The Kills Cover Velvet Revolver"
My point was this: We are living in a very good time for rap music. To proclaim that this is going to be "the best hip hop album in a LONG time," based on the involvement of a guy who, however he may be influenced by the genre, isn't really a hip hop musician, is to ignore the great music that's been released recently by people who have dedicated their careers to the craft.
Of course, you may be right. Maybe this will come out and it will be the best hip hop album in recent memory. Jonny Greenwood pulled something similar off when, as a relative newcomer to scoring films, he composed what was in my mind the most thrilling soundtrack of that year. It's certainly doable. But don't you kind of want to wait and see first?
Also, stop getting so worked up about what you've just imagined to be my taste in music. It's unbecoming.
i should be clear--i don't think that detracts from her artistic merit, or whatever. i could care less about that. It probably wasn't even her decision to play it. I had never heard of a 6-string banjo before, but it was pretty clear that she was playing it like one plays a guitar, ie. strumming chords. And it was just kind of funny that whoever staged that thing decided to give her one of those instead of a guitar to complete that ridiculous rustic vibe they had going on.
This is exciting. I know it's dumb of me to be waxing nostalgic about something that happened like a year ago, but the EARL song/video is still easily the most compelling thing these guys have put out. When I saw that for the first time it was hard for me to think of anything else for the next couple hours. I think Tyler's media saturation since then has been to the detriment of their music--part of the initial appeal was the mystery. It was genuinely a little scary. I kind of hope Earl keeps a lowish profile and just focuses on putting out good music.
