-2? Was I too aggressive? :(
Nope! that would be redundant, seeing as I already stated she has tons of money which is what affluence is. I actually meant how money can buy influence, ad-placement, radio, whatever, they are all bought, people hear and see these things and consume them, therefore are influenced by what was bought through vast wealth. Read a comment before you respond next time, it'll prevent you from looking like an idiot.
Influential in the "having tons of money, can buy anything" sense.
Man, it really goes in waves, certainly moving to poppier musicians, I remember making almost the same comment on an article on Lana del Rey a couple years ago when everyone in the music press was obsessed.
Every time I hear about their new "Tv Show/Documentary/GROUND BREAKING MUSICAL HISTORY LESSON!" I become more and more bored with it. The whole "every song in a different studio different all star guest" thing is not cool or cohesive. And it really just sounds like bland modern rock. Also the lyrics are so haphazardly written its unbelievable, Dave hears Buddy Guy say "I was looking for a nickel and found a quarter" immediately inserts line into boring rock song. They haven't "re-invented" their sound or anything, they just paste a random single element from one genre into theirs and keep on rockin'. This whole thing is so goofy, indulgent and out-of-touch (seriously, the only people they are teaching anything to by making this doc series are people that only listen to the Foo Fighters and nothing else), these aren't super unknown scenes of music, they are storied, influential and massive creative cultural hubs. The only thing they have going is how damn excited and likeable Dave Grohl is. I never really liked the Foos in all honesty, but this is next level dinosaur rock stuff.
Man, she is so sexy. But not just because she's really attractive, her enthusiasm and energy are awesome. She is catchy, as a person, despite my not being much of a fan of her music (a bit too poppy for me) she easily wins me over with her charm and presence. I think it would be really cool if someone as awesome and talented as her were the biggest pop-star in the world, combatting those T swifts everywhere.
This style seems partly derivative of that of Cyriak, the dude who made the video for "Putty Boy Strut" from his last album. That video isn't similar, but his weirdo cow videos are kinda, just less gruesome.
Well none of us ACTUALLY know what's up with 'em these days except for them and the people accusing them (in this case, Jian and the three women). Nothing has been determined yet, so please, please stop using conjecture as fact. Did you read any of the threads above?
Pitch-correction, it's everywhere, despite their own skill as singers. Think of it as sharpening of the audio, it's there, no one sings that cleanly. Thats modern production for you, thinking otherwise is being willfully ignorant. You don't know much about music production, do you?

He's a national treasure, DON'T YOU DARE SUGGEST THAT.
Thank you Michael, I too have found these statements puzzling, especially the whole solidified 1 way-to-do-it BDSM comment. People can deviate from the norm of this and can still be ok, but that isn't necessarily what happened with Ghomeshi. I don't understand why everyone has to label him as a "pervert/rapist/monster/etc.." right now all either side has are their statements. Sure, multiple sources indicate something of a pattern, which is not to be dismissed, however, only Gian and the women who have made the allegations know whether they are true. Anyone who claims without any shadow of a doubt that he is an aforementioned "rapist, etc.." is merely spouting conjecture. and DISCLAIMER: I am not defending this man, if he has committed these crimes, justice should be served as is seen fit in a court of law. I just hate when people immediately form these "factual opinions" when they have nothing to go on aside from the claims made by both parties.
Or a beer commercial set to Sun Kil Moon.
+1 for calling him a chode. Man, I haven't heard someone call someone else a chode in far too long.
I use the phrase now, and I have yet to know what it TRULY means, because Tom never responded to my comment. RJ made a helpful list of the possibilities, but who's to say for certain. Maybe it's so great I just haven't realized it yet.
It's emo-revival, guys! You can come out of your caves now.
"Going to California" is a perfect song. My favourites have always been the soft ones, or partially soft, (Ramble On, Over the Hills and Far Away, etc.). I feel you on this.
Yeah, same here. I don't know why, and maybe I'm an asshole for it, but honestly if I see someone wearing a nirvana shirt on the street or hear smells like teen spirit somewhere I have an immediate distaste for them as a person. I also tend to wonder if they are stuck in time or something.
NME must have had a heart attack.
nah, he can do his thing how he wants to do it, doesn't need their bullshitt major label politics interfering with his music.
In terms of the scope of music this site claims to cover, it feels irrelevant to me. Let MTV and billboard cover this, I want to hear about the music that actually means something to me. I understand that this brings more of the pop audience to Stereogum's readership but I really wish they would stop it.
I just don't understand why Stereogum is reporting on it. I don't care about Gwen Stefani's new material or album, she's clinging to relevance by meeting current standards in pop. I'm ok with the whole "This Week in Pop" column, but I hate how much it's spilling into the rest of the site. These are thinly veiled commercial postings to mine eyes.
True, especially after "NYC" by Interpol, which is an untouchable song.
I really just want Lukie to stop lying about being a doctor.
The world will be a better place when Ryan Tedder stops writing every pop song ever.
Never mind, someone missed the reference :(
Please stop posting Gwen Stefani tracks, they couldn't be less relevant, seriously.
What about me? My mom says I'm a treasure :(
What is this song doing here? Seriously? Is this a SpinMedia requirement? Reporting on a shitty pop song, just a tiny promo blurb...
Seconded. Am not a fan of this music (I find it boring and unoriginal), maybe thats a part of being a hip-dad (Tom) starting to like music like this as he gets old. Ty Segall is the greatest working rockstar right now in my opinion, the work-ethic and crazy energy levels, that dude is amazing. Just like "the song of the summer" isn't a thing defined by the biggest most annoying inescapable pop song of any given summer, the greatest "rock star" is not some Nashville country dude. I will get down-voted for this I know, as people are really on this band-wagon right now but I don't care, I'd rather more think pieces on bands and phenomena that people didn't talk as often about, not country superstars.
then you stop the spread of ebola from yourself! Either way, I'm buying 100 of them.
I can also attest to how awesome the lighting at the show I saw was too, really great vibe to the whole thing.
They played this at the show in Halifax I was at too, awesome show. They seem way more energetic live now (Alex even stood up for a few songs! and chair-vibed very enthusiastically while sitting). Looking 4werd 2 this new album.
It seems like Mike WiLL will literally work with anyone, which is kind of cool in a way, but also results in "Pussy Overrated". Win some, lose some. Flex some.
It's weird, Riff is throwing a more standard verse, as opposed to his normal insane absurd flow and lyrics, its a catchy song tho. Beautiful crooning :)
Reminded again of how dumb the album cover is. It's trying to be edgy and emotional, but I can't get over his son's horrible chin stubble/beard.
