It’s a great record, no doubt, but for some reason I lost track of it day-to-day. I wanted the list to reflect what remained strong for the entire year — what I came back to most often — and not just what I loved in theory

This was a banner year for metal (Torche, Harvey Milk, Disfear, Nachtmystium and, if you count them, Black Mountain), but it seems like nobody was paying attention and were to busy unnecessarily getting on the Vampire Weekend backlash bandwagon, sniffing TVOTR’s jock strap or blowing their wads all over that overrated Fleet Foxes LP (the EP, however, was incredible).

I think the quote above is very sad all three bands spoon, hold steady, and arcade fire deserve to sell more records.
I also wonder how many people complaining about certain records have actually bought the record. This is a problem and I think records will get worse and worse as long as we don’t all support good bands.

The music you make doesn’t determine the music you listen to and these artists obviously have a more open mind than you do. I love Santogold, Kanye, and Q-Tip as much as Bon Iver, Sia, Beirut, and Arcade Fire

Their songs are truly lovely, and Ragged Wood cannot seem to dislodge itself from my stereo. It’s laced with the best kinds of earworms.

Though they generally love them, some don’t consider them pure metal (which of course they were not). They remain a category unto themselves. Where are: Black Dog, Communication Breakdown, Immigrant Song, Dazed and Confused, Heartbreaker, Rock & Roll???? Though this list contains some great songs, it is generally weak because of the glaring Zep omissions (among others), and the inclusion of so many horrendous tunes that should not be even mentioned in company of great rock tunes

Once people under 20 pick your band up, and you get played in the gap and tv show soundtracks you loose all your indie rock cred sadly, despite the fact that Tokyo Police Club put out a superb album. But I do make the Case for Destroyers “Trouble in Dreams”. One of his best albums, ignored by almost everyone. It was an album that leaked late December 2008, and released early January 2009 so i guess it wasnt on everyones mind either. Hope that doesn’t happen to Andrew Bird this year.
