Santigold

Santigold has always been a gifted singer in her own right, but she’s not exactly a belter. Credit Santi White, then, with massive chutzpah for recording her own version of “Proud Mary,” a Creedence Clearwater Revival classic most famously sung by Tina Turner. The Santigold version, recorded for a future BBC Radio session, wisely doesn’t take the song on straight-up, reinventing it instead as a robo-reggae track. Listen to it at the NJ Underground.

Santigold’s album Master Of My Make-Believe is out 5/1 on Downtown/Atlantic; stream it in full at NPR.

  1. This is cool but I’m more excited about the trailer that was just released for the American Nightmare reunion documentary. Oh shit, I just hijacked another one of Tom’s threads…
