Austin City Limits

This morning, Texas’s Austin City Limits festival announced the lineup of its 2012 incarnation, which goes down 10/12-14 at Austin’s Zilker Park. This year’s three headliners are the Black Keys, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, and, most intriguingly, Neil Young And Crazy Horse. The rest of the lineup is, as always, absolutely packed, and it leans harder on trad-rock than most other festivals of its size. Highlights include Jack White, M83, Florence & The Machine, the Roots, the Shins, the Afghan Whigs, Iggy & The Stooges, Weezer, Crystal Castles, Andrew Bird, Metric, Alabama Shakes, M. Ward, Die Antwoord, Rufus Wainwright, Antibalas Afrobeat Orchestra, Steve Earle, the War On Drugs, Old 97′s, dancehall legend Barrington Levy, A-Trak, Big K.R.I.T., Oberhofer, Tennis, Zola Jesus, Black Lips, Los Campesinos!, Father John Misty, Willis Earl Beal, and Thundercat. And it’ll also give the curiosity-seekers among us chances to check out the Avett Brothers, Gotye, Childish Gambino, and the Civil Wars, among many, many others. For the full lineup, check here.

  1. Radiohead has avoided ACL for way to long. This is an outrage.

  2. Definitely a good line-up. There are a lot of really good overlaps with the other major festivals plus some sweet add-ons. It’s always good to be the only fest with Niel Young and the stooges is always a fun add, and having Big K.R.It. on the same line-up a the roots was a good call.

  3. I love how M83 somehow gets listed before Florence & The Machine, the Roots, the Shins, the Afghan Whigs, Iggy & The Stooges, and Weezer. Good ol’ Stereogum- keepin’ it indie, popularity/importance/relevance be damned.
