Back in the late ’90s and early ’00s, Missy Elliott and Timbaland got together to make some gloriously weird and revolutionary pop music, essentially grabbing rap radio by its neck and turning it into a safe place for stranger, more personal visions than anything you’d hear at your local indie rock club. It’s been a while since they made any music together, but now Missy is back with two new Tim collaborations, both of which find the pair recapturing their old bizarre mojo, rapping stuff that barely makes sense (“the new Ike and Tina”?) over wormy, sputtering Timbaland tracks. Tim’s new thing: Classical piano, apparently! Listen below.
Both singles are out now digitally on Atlantic.
