Tegan & Sara Cover Cyndi Lauper

The sisters Quin embrace full-on synth-pop with their latest single “Closer” so it’s not a huge surprise to learn they love Cyndi Lauper. “We were lifetime fans and she was always an influence,” Tegan recently told Billboard when she and Sara took on “Time After Time” for the magazine’s Candid Covers series. (Lauper was also on our radar earlier this week when 2012 indie crushes Alexis Krauss and St. Vincent joined her onstage in New York.) T&S performed a stripped-down, xylophone-assisted version of “Closer” too. Watch both clips below.

Cyndi Lauper’s new memoir is out now. It’s got some good gossip about her Vibes co-star Jeff Goldblum, but doesn’t mention the time I went to Cyndi’s apartment with a coworker to fix her DSL.

Tegan & Sara’s Heartthrob is out 1/29 on Sire.

  1. Love the cover.

I still maintain that “Closer” is horribly disappointing, considering the quality of their work up until this point.

  2. Why is okay to cut interviews into the song performance? Hat that.

  3. If you’re going to post this, you also have to post their appearance on the new 90210 from earlier this week. (Um, not that I watch that show. My wife watches it. Honest.)

  4. Closer is a great song, and clearly following the evolution from The Can and Sainthood, and that Cyndi Lauper cover really picks up.

  5. wish i could see it
