Pazz & Jop 2012 Winners

Frank Ocean - Channel Orange

Every year, the Village Voice polls a shit-ton of music critics, ex-critics, part-timers, and bloggers for its annual Pazz & Jop music critics’ poll, soliciting top-10 lists of albums and singles. The poll isn’t as big a deal as it once was, since every publication has already run a list and since the Voice has fired or chased away virtually every prominent and respected critic who’s written for it in the past few years. (Seriously, as a past employee of that place, it feels like a fresh wound reopening every time they shitcan one of my friends, and that practice probably has something to do with how many critics’ names you won’t see under the ballot listings.) But it’s still a huge and comprehensive (though largely surprise-free) list, and it’s still fun to dive into the master lists and the individual ballots. Some good essays in there this year, too. Below, check out the top 10 lists for albums and singles.
