Pond - "Giant Tortoise"

The prolific Australian psych-rock band Pond share three members with Tame Impala (including Kevin Parker, that band’s frontman, on drums), so it’s probably not too much of a surprise that their euphorically sunny fuzz-parties will sound familiar to any Tame Impala fan. But it’s a bit surprising that Pond are staying so goddam busy. Just last year, they released their album Beard Wives Denim, and they aren’t wasting any time following it up, even after the massive success of Tame Impala’s Lonerism. Pond has a new album called Hobo Rocket set for release in the coming months, and its first single, “Giant Tortoise,” sounds like someone genetically fused early-’70s Beach Boys with early-’90s Mercury Rev. Listen below.

Hobo Rocket is out this spring on Modular.
