The spartan, fearsome British postpunk heroes Wire recorded a shitload of songs during their late-’70s glory period, but they wrote and performed even more — enough, in fact, that they’re only now getting around to recording some of them. On their new album Change Becomes Us, the still-sharp band has compiled a bunch of the songs they never got around to recording. All of them come from 1979 and 1980, the same period that produced the deathless 154. And “Love Bends,” which you can download below, has a balance of tension, ferocity, and beauty that not too many other bands could pull off.
Change Becomes Us is out 3/25 on Pink Flag.
