Lou Reed - The Original Wrapper

The Talkhouse is a new online publication from Our Band Could Be Your Life author Michael Azerrad, and it focuses on musicians (EMA’s Erika Anderson, White Lung’s Mish Way, people like that) writing about music. And this morning, they’ve scored a deeply weird coup: Lou Reed writing, at length, about Kanye West’s Yeezus. The verdict: Lou likes it! He also references Metal Machine Music, imagines Kanye murdering Taylor Swift, and calls Kanye “a child of social networking and hip-hop.” Once you get over the fact that this ridiculous thing exists, you can read it here.

  1. Surprised anyone is surprised. Kanye is a hipster’s wet dream. Lou Reed is the ultimate hipster, the godfather of all hipsters. A match made in heaven.

  2. Links broke brah.

Their servers probably crashed immediately… Too many people who didn’t like Yeezus immediately because it’s not a hip-hop album and don’t like Lou Reed because everything he makes isn’t a Velvet Underground song must be trying to read this review so that they can comment about how they don’t like things that aren’t the things they already like.

  3. metallica should set this to music.

  4. “Once you get over the fact that this ridiculous thing exists…”

Incredibly short-sighted, Stereogum. I’d suggest you wake up and take a step into the new millenium.

  5. uhm, so, yeah, sweet Lou Reed allegedly thinks Kanye is “seriously smart…majestic, and inspiring…”
apparently Lou Reed is Ye’s new pen name.

  6. Great review from Lou of the first great rap record in many years.

  7. I love Lou Reed as much as the next guy, but there should be some law against him talking about things.

  8. Very lame for Lou to even acknowledge that turd of an album. I guess he needs the money.

  9. Let’s pray that this doesn’t end up like Loutallica.
