J Mascis & The Roots on Fallon

A pair of prolific lifechampions joined forces last night, when J and Questo and the rest of the Roots jammed on a series of bumpers, walk-on songs, and covers (Daft Punk’s “Get Lucky,” Black Sabbath’s “War Pigs”) on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon. A legitimate opportunity to make meme-magic was lost, though, when Jimmy asked Questlove and Black Thought to deliver Bill Clinton impressions, and didn’t solicit the same from Mascis. (J’s bedraggled rasp probably would have done some legitimate justice to “I did not have sexual relations with that woman.”) That minor quibble aside, this is obviously a great clip for anyone who enjoys legends occupying the same frame.

A teaser: Jimmy thanks J for being there, J says “Alright, thanks a lot,” Jimmy calls J “a man of few words.” And, scene:

  1. Yes Stereogum I’m going to watch the entire episode of Fallon for these small parts with J. Mascis.

  2. Amrit Singh is absolutely horrible at writing posts. Can somebody get him an editor? He writes in such a pretentious manner in an attempt to highlight his “intellect”. People don’t go to Stereogum for the literary style. Just keep it short and simple.

  3. “a legitimate opportunity to make meme-magic was lost when Jimmy asked Questlove and Black Thought to deliver Bill Clinton impressions, and solicit the same from Mascis.”

Is there a typo in here, because it doesn’t really make sense as written.

  4. “There was a Dinosaur Jr jam thrown in as well (“Just Like Heaven”)”

    *cough*
