The original idea of the Asheville, North Caroline festival Moogfest was to honor Bob Moog, the synth pioneer and former Asheville resident. But the festival, in past years, was a more of a standard-issue indie-plus-dance fest, with some emphasis on electronic stuff. So after the festival took a year off last year, it’s heartening to see it coming back to Asheville next 4/23-27 with a ridiculously great lineup full of dance and electronic legends. The big news: Motherfucking Kraftwerk will headline, giving three “Kraftwerk 3D” performances. There are three other total-genius headliners, too: Giorgio Moroder, Chic with Nile Rodgers, and a one-woman show from Laurie Anderson. At the moment, the undercard could stand to be fleshed out a bit more, but it already has Dan Deacon, Avey Tare’s Slasher Flicks, Wolf Eyes, Le1f, Adult., RJD2, Escort, Green Velvet, Mike Simonetti, Soul Clap, and plenty of others. Labels like DFA, Fool’s Gold, and Warp will also host showcases. Check here for details.
