The Flaming Lips

The Flaming Lips have been pretty active with the covers lately; the last few songs they’ve released have been covers of tracks by Sparklehorse, the Stone Roses, and Tame Impala. Now, they’re offering a version of the great Beatles psychedelic classic “Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds” — probably as close to a blueprint for the Lips’ sound as exists in this world. Said the band in a short statement accompanying the song: “While rehearsing for New Year’s Eve the other day, we decided to record a couple of the songs we were practicing. Here is one of them.” If this is how they sound in rehearsal, the show (a John Lennon covers set at Aspen’s Belly Up) is gonna be pretty great. Check it out.
