Danny Brown on Kimmel

Danny Brown is one of rap’s most electric live performers, but somehow he’d never performed on a late-night show before last night. As the musical guest on Kimmel, he knocked out “25 Bucks,” from his insanely good 2013 album Old. That’s the Purity Ring-produced song about how Danny’s mother supported an entire family by braiding hair on their front porch, and it’s not exactly a track that will help translate the dizzy cranked-up intensity of Brown’s live show to television. It was, however, an excuse to get Brown onstage with Purity Ring singer Megan James, and the hug that those two give each other at the end of the song is a beautiful thing. Watch the performance below.

Old is out now on Fool’s Gold.

  1. Aw, that hug at the end was so awesome. So happy he decided to choose this track for his late-night debut, it remains one of my favorite songs of 2013.
