Daft Punk Play The Grammys

The Grammys aren’t about Grammys — the vast majority of them aren’t even given out during the televised ceremony. (UPDATE: Here’s who won, though.) No, the Grammys are about the performances, and this year is looking pretty stacked. Here we’ll be posting videos of the live sets including Daft Punk (with Pharrell, Nile Rodgers, and Stevie Wonder), Beyoncé and Jay Z, Paul McCartney (Ringo’s there too!), Kendrick Lamar, Katy Perry with Juicy J, Taylor Swift, the potential-clusterfuck of Nine Inch Nails, Queens Of The Stone Age, Lindsey Buckingham, and Dave Grohl, and others. Plus, all the best GIFs in case a four minute video is too long for you.

  1. Holy cow, Kendrick killed it. He was Kendrick enough that Imagine Dragons felt kind of like cake decorations.

  3. The Daft Punk performance should’ve just been shots of the audience dancing. Specifically, Yoko Ono.

  4. The energy on Kendrick was insane. That was the only performance where the audience dancing felt genuine (and Yoko Ono with Get Lucky lol)

  5. where is nine inch nails? dyin’ here!

  6. NIN/QOTSA, Kendrick, and Daft Punk all KILLED tonight!!! Oh, and I guess Metallica was actually pretty cool for the first time in a long time too. Never been a fan of the Grammys, but at least they put on a show worth watching this year.

  7. That was cruel to poor taylor swift

  8. I really don’t know how to feel about Trent Reznor and Dave Grohl teaming up. I mean I feel…lost. Really.

  9. tyler should have been there. wolf blew everything else away.

and tay looks way more doable with that straight hair. i’d pork her.

  10. is there an acceptance of the robots?!

  11. Congrats to Vampire Weekend. Here’s CBS’ awkward post-win interview w/ Rostam and Ariel

  12. The best reaction is the guy sitting next to T Swift.

No disrespect to Daft Punk, but were they even doing anything back there during that performance?

    • I felt the same way. Random Access Memories was an album lauded in part because they put away their computers and picked up real instruments, so I was expecting them to reprise their roll as instrumentalists in the performance. Instead, they let a bunch of other people play their song and then phoned in a few quick remixes of fan favs on a laptop.

      • Yeah, I was actually expecting a set up like the Get Lucky video with the robots on drums and bass. It was very weird when the camera view showed what they were doing and it looked like some fake buttons they probably weren’t actually pressing.

        • They probably shouldn’t even attend these award type shows…their inability to offer thanks to the tons who helped make that record happen came off a bit obtuse. And Pharrell speaking for them with a baked potato on his head certainly doesn’t quantify it.

          • Good point.

That hat, by the way, pissed me off. He obviously knew what he was doing when he decided to wear it. Seemed like he was deliberately creating a meme. Pharrell certainly doesn’t need any extra publicity or attention. Just be cool and let your awesome year in music speak for itself.

  13. I like that even the Grammys are smart enough to that Kacey Musgraves is better than Taylor Swift, but Stereogum hasn’t.

  14. Feeling for NIN & QOTSA

It’s one thing to get your performance cut short on the air.

It’s another thing entirely when half of what they DID show was covered up by Ads & Sponsorships. Quite the honor to have your live performance at the Grammys soundtrack Delta Airlines. At least Tegan & Sara got paid for their ad…

  15. I was left after watching the Grammy’s with a feeling of despair regarding Clear Channel’s hold on popular music in America.

  16. Panda Bear was mentioned in the Daft Punk announcement. So, in a tenuous, limited sense, Animal Collective won a grammy. I’ll drink to that at least.

  17. I like how Trent Reznor said it best:

  18. Is it just me, or does it look like Daft Punk would get awfully hot in those outfits? Robot helmets can only let out so much air.

  19. Damn Paul McCartney, get a haircut.
