Cam’ron & A-Trak – “Humphrey”

Harlem rap prince Cam’ron and dance-music mogul A-Trak have a collaborative EP called Federal Reserve on the way, and it’s potentially going to be awesome, but I was a bit worried that it would just be latter-day Cam rapping awkwardly over squelching trap beats. “Humphrey,” the first track we’ve heard from the EP, is enough to dispel those fears. Co-produced by A-Trak and Party Supplies, it’s a high-stepping, soul-sampling track that has Cam easing back into his masterful lane. I’m delighted to report that it’s in the same zone as A-Trak’s all-time best Dipset team-up, 2005’s JR Writer/Hell Rell/40 Cal collab “Don’t Fool With The Dips.” And for reasons that I don’t quite understand, it’s excellent snow music.
