Bonnaroo 2014

Like last year, Bonnaroo is announcing the bulk of its fest lineup via a 30-minute B.L.A.M. (Bonnaroo Line-Up Announcement Megathon) webcast. The 2014 reveal is hosted by comedians Hannibal Buress and Taran Killam and features a super jam with the Flaming Lips, Ben Folds, and special guests (I’m guessing Foxygen based on this Instagram). Bonnaroo has been dropping clues on the popular photo-sharing service for weeks, so we already know to expect Neutral Milk Hotel, Chvrches, Broken Bells, Washed Out, Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds, Phosphorescent, the Naked And Famous, Meshuggah, Janelle Monáe, and Ice Cube in Manchester, TN 6/12-6/15. Danny Brown has been confirmed, too, and sets from the aforementioned BLAM! talent would make sense. Popular headliner rumors include Elton John and Kanye West. West would be a coup as the rapper’s previous ’Roo appearance DID NOT GO OVER WELL. Let’s watch together and I’ll update this space as talent is confirmed. You can stream the megathon starting at 9 PM EST (it’s preceded by two hours of archival performances) at, SQUID BRAINS.

UPDATE: Below, check out the Lips/Folds superjam covering Usher’s “Love In This Club” and scroll down for the full fest lineup. Kanye’s back. No OutKast. It’s Elton John’s first American festival…

and some more i missed or cant rmember and was counting on you to tell me haha

  2. Deafheaven has been confirmed!

  3. Did anyone else get to A Tribe Called Red and feel a bit trolled that it didn’t say what you thought it would?

      • I thought I was their least favorite ‘Gum commenter!

  4. Good call to have Seasick Steve be the headliner. He’s the man! ;-)

  5. Best line up since 2011 in my opinion. Been to Coachella, Pitchfork, and Lollapalooza, and there’s something just great about ‘roo’s environment, but the line-ups past couple of years have been pretty meh. This is not, lots of great names and diversity of genres/ages

    • It’s the all-hours, non-stop, anything can happen, lets have a party and throw in some random jams, too, that makes ‘roo better for me. And I loves me some Coachella and Outside Lands (one is in my backyard, one a half day’s drive), but ‘roo definitely has the best vibe of any festival I’ve been to.

  6. This is… this is everything I wanted
except for The National, Modest Mouse and The Replacements. Guess I’m going to this and Shaky Knees if I can swing it.

  7. Not my favorite ‘Roo line-up, but if nothing else it’s fairly diverse, which is good.

  8. That top line alone “Elton John / Kanye / Jack White / Vampy Weeks” is just about worth the price of admission.

  9. Nope. This year pitchfork is “where it’s at.”

  10. For a second there, I thought I saw Mr. Mister on the line up….

  11. I think this is the first Bonnaroo where I am legitimately most psyched about the headliners.

I can’t wait for Yeezy to guest on “Don’t Go Breaking My Heart”

  12. Is Lionel Richie a headliner?

    • Yeeeaaaahhhh, can we talk about why the fuck Kanye is going back to Bonnaroo?

I get the feeling that as we speak a coalition is forming to boo(nooroo) and throw stuff at the stage.

      Roo’ fans HATE Kanye.

      • All is forgiven apparently, though I’m sure money talks louder than apologies.

        • “Everyone has moved on – it’s in the past.”

Tell that to every ‘Roo attendee spray painting “FUCK KANYE” all over the festival for the past 5 years. People STILL bring that up as their quintessential reason for hating Kanye (whether they attended or not).

Of course, the squid brains over at Bonnaroo have wised up and will put him in the headlining slot instead of slapping him on the main-stage AFTER a headlining act last minute. I still think ‘Roo dropped the ball in 2008.

          • One of my favorite graffitis I saw from last year was “‘FORGIVE KANYE.” I like to think there are enough happy vibes at Bonnaroo that people will have moved on.

            At least I hope so.

          • Well that’s reassuring! Hadn’t heard about that one. I still think “WHO THE FUCK IS BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN” was a good one when he headlined.

Of course, “FORGIVE KANYE” assumes it really was his fault after all. I remember when Bonnaroo announced that year’s set times with Kanye listed as closing out the “Which Stage” (Roo’s smaller, not-covered “Second Stage” [extra fun fact: they also put AnCo on this stage at 3 in the afternoon one year after Kanye because squid brains]). Since I had been to Bonnaroo the previous year and had also recently seen the Glow in the Dark tour, I instantly saw problems. There was no way that show was ever going to work on that smaller stage. They must have realized this as we all know how their last minute change turned out. Pearl Jam going an hour over their allotted time doesn’t help, but I don’t blame them. They were the headliners and originally weren’t supposed to have anybody else on the main stage after them (typical headline protocol).

I know we all remember that ALL CAPS open letter to Bonnaroo ‘Ye typed out that nearly broke his MacBook Air. I remember in it he mentioned how he sent them his stage specs and they went back and forth on it because they tried to stick him on a smaller stage that clearly wouldn’t work.

Anyway, it’s good to know that Bonnaroo will “APOLOGIZE TO KANYE” this year.

The good news: Meshuggah AND Mastodon
