The Hold Steady at SXSW

The Hold Steady’s new album Teeth Dreams is about a week and a half away from entering your life, and we’ve posted the album-starting ragers “I Hope This Whole Thing Didn’t Frighten You” and “Spinners.” Yesterday, playing the Public Radio Rock showcase at the SXSW day stage, they brought out a relatively restrained and even pretty new one called “The Ambassador,” probably their best power ballad since “Lord, I’m Discouraged.” Below, watch pro video of that and of “The Weekenders,” a song from their 2010 album Heaven Is Whenever.

Teeth Dreams
is out 3/25 on Washington Square.

  1. The Ambassador is a great song. And on Teeth Dreams, it opens a fantastic streak. From that point, and up to Runner’s High, is easily the best part of the album.
