KV Rockwiz

Per Facebook, “RocKwiz is Australia’s premier live music trivia quiz TV program featuring an entertaining mix of celebrities, chat, music, and comedy.” On Monday, that mix included Kurt Vile and Phoebe Baker, the Ellie Goulding-esque lead singer of Australian indie rockers Alpine. The pair closed the show with a cover of Neil Young’s “Albuquerque” in keeping with the show’s plot outline: “Hosted by Julia Zemiro and Brian Nankervis, each program features two musical celebrities and four contestants who play off for nothing more than the honour of winning. Each musical guest performs a song with the RocKwiz Orkestra before joining together to close the show with a duet.” Australia, man! Vile also played his own Wakin On A Pretty Daze jam “Snowflakes Are Dancing.” Watch both performances below.

In other news, it’s springtime, which means (a) Wakin On A Pretty Daze has been out for about a year and (b) it’s time to revisit Wakin On A Pretty Daze.

  1. Ahhh man, this is brilliant!

  2. One of my favourite Neil tunes. Kurt dun it well.

  3. Hi, Albuquerque resident here. It’s an occasional treat to have a band cover this song when they come through. Iron and Wine and the Swell Season came out and sang it together a few years ago and it was pretty great.

    • Weird Al also does his beast of a song Albuquerque when he comes to town, and people go nuts.

  4. Man, that is good stuff, Vile is on a roll.
