Honeyblood – “Super Rat” (Stereogum Premiere)

By Chris DeVille / June 16, 2014 - 11:43 am

There is so much to adore about “Super Rat,” the latest single from Scottish duo Honeyblood’s self-titled debut. There are the guitars, which gleam with iridescent beauty. There are the vocals, which bubble over with an immediately ingratiating spunk. Most of all, there are the lyrics, which pull no punches even amidst all the sweetness. “I will hate you forever!” “You really do disgust me!” It’s as gorgeously embittered as a CHVRCHES song, only instead of synthpop they’re dealing in pure guitar-driven pop-rock pleasure. (“Crunch pop” is their terminology of choice.) You will love it forever; it really will delight you.
