Julian Casablancas + The Voidz Announce Tyranny Album, Tour

Julian Casablancas + The Voidz - Tyranny

For months now, we’ve been hearing about the new album from Strokes frontman Julian Casablancas and his new backing band the Voidz. The band shared a trailer for that LP back in March, and we’ve posted live versions of a bunch of their songs. Now it’s official: The album is called Tyranny, and it’s coming out in September. The band has shared a glitchy six-minute preview video that includes bits of live performances and knowingly scuzzy bits with the band that seems designed to capture the scuzzy glamor that the Strokes first had. They’ve also announced a North American tour this fall. Check out the video and the dates below.

Casablancas explained the LP title in a press release:

“Tyranny has come in many forms throughout history. Now, the good of business is put above anything else, as corporations have become the new ruling body. Most decisions seem to be made like ones of a medieval king: whatever makes profit while ignoring and repressing the truth about whatever suffering it may cause (like pop music, for that matter).”
