The off-kilter Detroit rock band Turn To Crime is led by former Awesome Color frontman Derek Stanton, but the trio’s debut album Can’t Love is a far cry from the punk-informed blues-rock of Stanton’s former band. As evidenced by early previews including “Sunday’s Cool,” “Forgiveness,” and the title track, this is record-clerk pop-rock of the highest order — skuzzy, wobbly singer-songwriter ditties and krautrock jams indebted to Lou Reed, Jim O’Rourke, and a legion of wizened post-punks. Can’t Love is out 7/1 on Old Flame/Mugg & Bopp.
