SZA went from nobody to Coldplay opener in a little over a year and, with an underwhelming debut under her belt, it’s time to start gearing up for round two. Her new song “Moodring” is produced by frequent collaborator Felix Snow and it’s a pretty, glittery thing, though a little formless. “I wrote ’Moodring’ the night I opened for Coldplay. I hadn’t slept in two and half days due to anxiety,” the singer-songwriter told Billboard. “After the show, I drank every bottle of champagne Chris Martin [and] the band gave us that night, with Thundercat and my band. Great fucking time.” The song will appear on DJ Kitty Cash’s mixtape Love The Free II, which will also feature contributions from Dev Hynes, Yuna, Empress Of, and Bipolar Sunshine. Listen below.
DJ Kitty Cash’s mixtape Love The Free II is out 7/22. SZA’s debut Z is out now via Top Dawg.
