It’s been six years since the former Rilo Kiley leader Jenny Lewis released Acid Tongue, her last proper solo album. Next week, she’ll follow that one up with a new LP called The Voyager, and it’s a really, really good one. Ryan Adams and his musical partner Mike Viola produced the album together, and they also had help from Beck and Lewis’s Jenny and Johnny partner Johnathan Rice. But the real show here is Lewis’s songwriting, which is as sharp and personal as it’s ever been. This is one of the finest, catchiest, most thoughtful down-the-middle alt-pop records I’ve heard in recent memory, and you should absolutely give it a listen. We’ve posted the title track and the single “Just One Of The Guys,” but now the whole album is streaming at NPR.
The Voyager is out 7/29 on Warner Bros.
