Beyoncé @ 2014 MTV Video Music Awards

Tonight, MTV’s Video Music Awards go down at the Forum in Inglewood, California. This year, the pre-ceremony preparations and parties have been unusually calamitous: Nicki Minaj’s backup dancer was bit by an anaconda, Iggy Azalea fell off the stage, and Suge Knight got shot! So we can only hope things go more smoothly when the festivities are underway. There are some prominent questions: Will Beyoncé be doing a medley of Beyoncé songs as part of her Video Vanguard Award reception? Who will win Video Of The Year, and where would that vid have ranked in our Countdown of Video Of The Year winners? And most importantly: Will Weird Al perform? We’ll be watching those storylines, keeping track of all the night’s winners, and compiling videos and GIFs from the big event, right here.

  1. Did Lorde just win … BEST ROCK VIDEO?

  2. I didn’t watch (duh), but can we all agree that the whole thing is ridiculous and leave it at that? I mean, if we don’t comment on it, it’s like it never existed and SG will go back to talking about other things, right?

…says the guy after commenting on it.

  3. Needed more Weird Al.

  4. The final vine of RiFF getting dissed… so brutal.

Now I can officially hate Ariana Grande for a normal person reason.

  5. By far the most references to asses and the least musical ability of any award show (including the Westminster Dog Show). When I’m asking for more Taylor Swift (who was spot on), you know your show is awful.

  6. Is anyone else at work just watching the Blue Ivy gif instead of working?

    It’s been twenty minutes.

  7. Good lord, I didn’t watch last night, and those gifs, winner lists, and taylor swifts tell me that I made the right decision. What the hell is wrong with pop culture? Was it always this terrible?

  8. Stereogum and Pitchfork are now the new Billboard, apparently.

Good lord, who gives a shit about any of this that regularly reads this site?

  9. To mickrandom26 – I think so. But this does seem really, really horrible
To whodunit – I’m with you. SG is really pissing me off with this shiite.

I simply cannot wait until the gloves come off and we find out all the sick and perverted shit that went on out at Michael Jackson “compound o’ molestation” Cuz eventually that shit is going to come out.

Will MTV still call it the “Michael Jackson Video Vanguard” award?

  10. Nicki Minaj’s ass and Beyoncé are the only things I needed to see from this show, so I’m glad this is here so I didn’t have to actually sit down and watch it.

Also, there’s no way TSwift isn’t going out of her to play up her awkward dancing as much as possible, which makes it so much less endearing now.
