Lucinda Williams has been cranking out tough, vulnerable, personal, badass alt-country for the past 35 years. Next month, she’ll release a double album called Down Where The Spirit Meets The Bone, her 11th studio effort. Its first single is a fiddle-and-guitar ramble called “Stowaway In Your Heart,” and it’s about as hardbitten as a love song can be. Listen to it at NPR.
Down Where the Spirit Meets The Bone is out 9/30 on Williams’ own Highway 20 label.
