Right now, Atlanta has a rap scene rich in talented, creative, deeply weird motherfuckers. One of those motherfuckers is Rome Fortune, the type of rapper who’s happy to record multiple tracks with Four Tet but who’s still friends with Young Thug. Another of those is ILoveMakonnen, a headblown DIY crooner who erases the boundaries between street-rap and chillwave and who recently signed to Drake’s OVO Sound imprint after Drake shows up on his “Tuesday (Remix).” Both motherfuckers come together on “FriendsMaybe,” a new relationship-drama lament from Rome Fortune’s forthcoming Small VVorld EP. It has Makonnen crooning hysterically on the hook, and it is a deeply fun and goofy piece of work. Listen below.
