Rob Crow’s Gloomy Place – “Oh, The Sadmakers”

It’s days like today where I’m thankful Pinback’s Rob Crow decided to keep making music. His new outfit Rob Crow’s Gloomy Place was apparently spawned from those career contemplations, and their first song “Business Interruptus” boasted the intricate guitar work you would expect from Crow. Their latest You’re Doomed. Be Nice. single “Oh, The Sadmakers” is more of the same, built around a magnificent, off-kilter start-and-stop guitar line. The key to the rhythm of this song is when the guitars aren’t heard versus when they are. The silent moments give each guitar layer its own space to breathe and ring out. The lyrics come as a bit of an afterthought, but they are as gloomy as the band name suggests, balancing the bright, heavy guitars. Check it out below.

You’re Doomed. Be Nice. is out 3/4 on Temporary Residence. Pre-order is available in physical and digital formats.
