Watch John Cale Play The Velvet Underground & Nico With Animal Collective, The Libertines, & Mark Lanegan

Multi-instrumentalist, former Velvet Underground member, and art-rock elder statesman John Cale performed the entirety of VU’s seminal debut The Velvet Underground & Nico tonight at the Philharmonie de Paris in France. Cale performed the album’s tracks in random order with a few songs from White Light/White Heat thrown in for good measure, and he was joined by a whole host of special guests: Animal Collective (who featured Cale on Painting With’s “Hocus Pocus”), the Libertines’ Pete Doherty and Carl Barât, Mark Lanegan, Étienne Daho, Lou Doillon, and Lemon Jelly’s Nick Franglen. Watch footage of “I’ll Be Your Mirror,” “White Light/White Heat,” “Femme Fatale,” and “There She Goes Again” below via Pitchfork.
