Those bits of cracked out audio that Gerome Voltaire was leaking crop up in the first single from Volta, streaming in this YouTube clip set to the true Volta cover (björk.com webmaster MWC clarified in the comments that the last iteration was just “a shot from a promotional shoot by Inez & Vinoodh”). Beat by Timbaland, bonus percussion from Konono N°1. And yes, she’s saying “We are the Earth intruders / We are the sharp shooters.” No idea what she’s talking about, but you just know it’s deep.

More confusing lyrics after the jump!

“Earth Intruders”
We are the earth intruders
We are the earth intruders
Muddy with twigs and branches

Turmoil
Carnage

Here come the earth intruders
We are the paratroopers
The beat of sharpshooters
Comes straight from voodoo

With our feet thumbing
With our feet marching
Grinding the skeptics into the soil

Shower of goodness coming to end the doubt
Pouring over
Shower of goodness coming to end

We are the earth intruders
We are the sharpshooters
Flock of parachuters
Necessary voodoo

I have guided my bones through some voltage
And love them still
And love them too

Metallic
Carnage
Furiousity
Feel the speed

We are the earth intruders
We are the sharpshooters
Flock of parachuters
Necessary voodoo

There is turmoil out there
Carnage
Rambling
What is to do but dig
Dig bones out of earth

Mud graves

Timber
Morbid trenches

Here come the earth intruders
There?ll be no resistance
We are the cannoneerers
Necessary voodoo

And the beast with many heads and arms rolling
Steamroller

We are the earth intruders
We are the earth intruders
Muddy with twigs and branches

Forgive this tribe

We are the earth intruders
We are the earth intruders
Muddy with twigs and branches

We are the earth intruders
Muddy with twigs and branches

We are the earth intruders

We are the earth intruders
Muddy with twigs and branches
Marching

We are the earth intruders
Muddy with twigs and branches
Marching
March
March
March
We are the earth intruders
Muddy with twigs and branches
Marching voodoo

This new Circa Survive track is great…. oops, what I meant to say was, this new Konono No.1 featuring that guy from Lovedrug song is great…. oh wait, this is Björk? Seriously?

  2. You guys know the whole song is out there, right?

It felt like a bit of a mess initially but I’m much more into it now half a dozen hearings later… Doubt it’s going to get the milkmen whistling. I like the feel and textures more than I do the tune or lyrics..

Why am I surprised that this was mildly enjoyable?

on second listen…. I think the recent Sugarcubes gig has unlocked Bjork’s spirit. I predict incredible live shows :D

  7. I have no idea who Circa Survive or Lovedrug is, but this just sounds like Bjork circa early 90′s to me.. Bjork’s been doing this tribal thing since ‘Human Behaviour’! I’m loving this goofy technicolour rave direction, and thank you ccu for the link

  8. Well, good for Bjork… But man, I wish Timbaland would go take a long vacation somewhere. Somewhere nice and sunny and completely devoid of mixing boards.

    DwD

  9. I don’t love it, but I like it. At least it’s interesting. Usually people don’t know when they’re out of material. She seems to know, and she’s going to the psychadellic stuff. Smart move.

    wow…this…is….awful.

Not..bad, but it is going to need to grow on me,I bet. It’s very rich almost to the point of being busy, and then with her voice added to it, it’s a lot to absorb in a song. Interesting new direction for her though. I still don’t understand the cover art, however, but that’s just a personal thing.

But when will the EarthIntruders box set be available????

I’m not sure we need Bjork now that we have The Knife.

    lyrics are awful
she should stopped reading all those neurosurgery books, i mean stop looking at the pictures in them.

Wow. i love the song, i think its great that she has taken a new road in music. Earth Intruders even though a very down to earth track, as it speaks of the horrors in Banda Aceh, she still managed to make it very upbeat, even though it should be melancholic kinda song. I love her work, and this is great.

Isn’t it “Medolic Carnage Curiosity” At least that’s what I hear lol. I LOVE this song, you can definetely feel the chaotic craziness she was feeling when she made the song. Volta will not disappoint.

totally amazing, I loved it first listen.

I loved it!!! I truly believe that she is a music saint! And I love the fact that shes so damn creative and not afraid to express it. Work that shit BJORK!

  18. We are the earth intruders and will march with twigs and branches to put an end in all this political carnage mantained and sustained by the Casa Blanch. Pray, pray a lot for not digging bones of the Earth…Because we will grind the skeptics into the soil! Be aware of this human-tsunami of poverty mass of people!

… um… what the hell kind of drugs do you have to be on in order to understand… well… ANYTHING, really, that comes from this woman’s synaptic firings? Seriously, what the hell? I’m all aout artistic expression, and experimentational music, and basically all kinds of genres and whatnot… but… come on… WTF?
