Glen Campbell In Studio

Glen Campbell’s step-out on the Grammys last weekend was deemed one of the Least Boring Moments of the show, where the retiring singer took the stage with swagger and lifted what could have been a sappy moment into a highlight. Earlier this month, Campbell re-released Meet Glen Campbell in a deluxe edition, featuring new bonus tracks, and to celebrate we’re giving away a Campbell-signed Fender Squier. To enter, you need be a fan of Stereogum on Facebook and comment with your favorite Glen Campbell song via Facebook Connect (do not use your ‘Gum user account on this post — we’ll have to be able to check if you are a fan of Stereogum on FB when the sweepstakes ends). There’s a shot of the guitar after the jump and the winner also gets the deluxe edition on CD. Sweepstakes ends 2/29 at 6 PM EST.

The reissued Meet Glen Campbell is out now on Capitol/EMI and available at iTunes.

  13. wichita lineman is my fav from my childhood

  14. There is just something about Rhinestone Cowboy that screams Glen Cambell and as an Arizona resident, it means so much more to the Cowboy state.

  15. Galveston.

  16. I got reintroduced to Glen Campbell through “”Meet Glen Campbell”, and being a huge Travis fan, LOVED his rendition of “Sing”.
Yet, on that album, there is one more superior cover, and that is “All I Want Is You”.
I know it’s not a Glen Campbell song, per se, but that is definitely my favorite.

  17. Rhinestone Cowboy!

  42. My favorite song is “Rhinestone Cowboy”

  43. May be a cliche answer, but “Wichita Lineman”.

  44. Even though he didn’t write it, I really like his cover of Tom Petty’s “Walls” from the “Meet Glen Campbell” album. He took a sort of minor Tom Petty single, that probably should have been bigger, and then added some “Rhinestone Cowboy” type production to it. Sounds like a mess on paper, but it turned out really good in my opinion.

  45. Rhinestone Cowboy!!!

  46. Wichita Linemen!

  60. Yeah, almost any of his songs could sound cliche’, but they’re all classics. I’ll go with “Southern Nights”.

  61. Wichita Lineman, of which Steve Hogarth of Marillion regularly does a haunting piano version in his solo shows. Very emotional

  62. By the Time I Get to Phoenix

  63. Rhinestone Cowboy is my all time fav, i remember my dad and I danceing to it in the living room when i was young.

  64. I have a slightly obscure choice, “Guess I’m Dumb” which was one of Brian Wilson’s rare non-Beach Boys productions in the ’60s. If you’ve never heard it, you should check it out, especially if you’re a Beach Boys fan. It’s very Pet Sounds-esque and Campbell’s vocal on it is incredible.

  65. When I was about 10, My parents took us on a 3 day drive to my Grandmas house in Old Mexico. They had a double 8 track collection called Country Crossovers that had By The Time I get To Pheonix on it. mustve heard that song 150 times on that trip and whenever i hear it it reminds me of those times.

  66. Wichita Lineman

  67. Southern Nights!

  68. Galveston. Faux Show!

  69. Delta Dawn with Helen Reddy is great! Also, it is hard to take anything away from Wichita Lineman! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h-ktEIFZh1o&feature=results_video&playnext=1list=PL218480EC68605B94

  76. How can I choose? By the time I get to Phoenix I think. My husband is losing touch like Glen so the performance the other night was especially poignant…we grew up with Glen. Special man, special gift.

  77. Gentle On My Mind

  78. So many great songs, definitely hard to pick a favorite… I really do enjoy Gentle On My Mind though.
