Didn't know the Haxan Cloak had the exclusive rights to this kinda music. Anybody ever show the guy a horror movie? Just saying, dude could be cleaning up.
Curveball after curveball on this list!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and where is Bona Drag? Surely if Hatful of Hollow and Louder Than Bombs made the Smiths countdown Bona Drag deserves to top this list.
If they ever switch sides like Anakin, I'mma sell everything, even the mannequins.
2 Chainz wasn't anywhere on Save Rock and Roll, c'mon guyz.
Sick records, SICK oh my god. Although I'm sure there are plenty who would agree with my statement as is.
Fall Out Boy, Dashboard and Taking Back Sunday all made some pretty suck albums as well.
Whole lotta people without a sense of humor in this site I guess. Hardly doubt this article was designed to offend any of your guys sensibilities, dunno why everyone's taking it so seriously. Keep doin' what yr doin' stereogum.
"The Real Her" is like the BEST song on Take Care. Definitely top 5. That album's nadir is probably like, I dunno, "HYFR".
Seriously, Frank Ocean has a great sense of humor. I mean come on, "This shower head feels so amazing" anybody?
I couldn't stand this album when it came out and I didn't care for it when I decided to revisit it a little while ago either. Does the fact that it will never have a follow up mean that this thing'll inevitably turn into one of indie's crown jewels? :/
I'm perfectly fine with "Get Lucky" at #2 (honestly it might be my favorite song of theirs) but " Digital Love" should be higher and surely "Make Love" and "Television" should be bumped in favor of "Aerodynamic" and "Face to Face". "Contact" definitely doesn't belong either, how about "Giorgio by Moroder"?
Perhaps it may be due to its memorable use in My Name is Earl, but I've always interpreted "The Weight" as being about karma, in a way. If you do good things, good things will happen to you. The speaker goes into town to do some favor for Ms. Fanny/Annie and in return he gets a girlfriend and a dog. Dunno how the verse about Carmen and the devil play into that, though.
Not really a fan of Kitty's music and I dunno if I'd call this piece "breathtaking" but it was a seriously good read. Really gets you thinking about all the machismo bullshit that even rappers as out there as Danny need to play into.
"Spent on Rainy Days" still the ultimate in under appreciated Oberst tunes I guess.
I don't think I'd say this tops Microcastle, let alone Halcyon Digest, but it's still an insanely strong album and a welcome addition to the consistently-stellar Deerhunter canon.
Not bad, but top 5's gotta be 1. Remain in Light 2. Fear of Music 3. Speaking in Tongues 4. More Songs 5. 77
Guess after that clusterfuck of a National list you guys just wanted to publish a no-brainer, huh?
I just don't understand the lack of love in this article. The author literally writes off everything recorded prior to Alligator before saying that the band's "best album" isn't even good all the way through. Is this the most passionate National fan Stereogum has to offer?
Just realized that Alligator accounts for more than half of my top 10: 10. Secret Meeting 09. Karen 08. Cherry Tree 07. Bloodbuzz Ohio 06. All the Wine 05. The Geese of Beverly Road 04. Abel 03. Patterns of Fairytales 02. Apartment Story 01. Fake Empire
