I love this take on the Ariana Grande song. It's giving me very Olivia Newton John vibes.
I came here to shit on 21 Pilots, but I'm glad to see a number of people have already beat me to the punch. Can't say I'm disappointed.
This is barely relevant to music, just saying.
I have a question, as someone who is really only a passing Madonna fan: Why hasn't she performed this song on tour before? Just didn't feel like it, or...?
This is really ironic to me because I could have sworn I read an article a few years ago (possibly on this very site) about how she's been a lot more successful in the UK, whereas here she's had like two hits, and everybody just thinks she's kinda corny and uncharismatic.
Meg Myers is not badass. She's pop-NuMetal, which is about the only way an artist can sound dated in 2015. Her songs are just corny and bad. That "Desire" tune is literally about fucking someone until they die. It's ridiculous. But at least that song is kind of so-bad-it's-kinda-enjoyable; the rest of her stuff is just bland and poorly written. I'm not a fan.
I kinda like the Bleachers version of "Break the Rules"; it almost sounds like old She Wants Revenge.
That sucks. That show at the Newport was badass though.
I'm really glad it's not a new Taylor Swift song. I've had enough of her this week.
I'll usually go to bat for almost any of the poptarts, but Taylor Swift is really one of the worst, despite her popularity. She's just milquetoast and bland.
"Luna" for sure is about Courtney Love, I'm not sure if any other songs on Siamese Dream are though. I have a hard time believing that "Today", in particular, is about her.
I suppose it's pretty easy to have "a soft spot for pop music" when you're a pop musician.
Agreed. This album is phenomenal.
While I like both of these songs, I can see how Britney's people would turn them down: they don't sound like anything close to her brand of pop music. They sound, however, a lot like Prince, which means they probably would work a lot better for a number of other pop singers. Dev Hynes could potentially become the new Sia Furler, now that Sia Furler has returned to just being Sia.
Ya know what, I don't doubt for a second that he was too fucked up on vicodin to remember recording "Blurred Lines".
Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't the dude from Black Lips have some less-than-enlightened things to say about hip-hop earlier this year? I seem to remember him having to "clarify" his usage of the word "ratchet" at some point. Just sayin'.
Really enjoy the Awolnation cover. I wish they weren't typically lumped in with Bastille and Imagine Dragons; they're actually a pretty competent band.
I'm really pleased with how this turned out. The bootlegged version of this that she recorded for The Wild Heart has always been one of my favorite unreleased tracks and this really does it justice; I'm glad she didn't do much tampering with it (unlike on the last album, when she turned "Lady From the Mountain" into "Moonlight (A Vampire's Dream)", ugh).
