Check Out James Franco's New Band, Daddy

Since James Franco is involved with such a wide array of stuff — between the short story collection, the performance art, a dance EP, all of that grad school, oh, and the acting thing — it probably isn’t surprising to hear that Franco (alongside musician Tim O’Keefe) will put out a record as Daddy. What may be surprising — again, depending on your capacity for surprise when it comes to Franco’s goings-on — is that it’s heavily Motown-influenced, owing to Franco’s time in Detroit filming Oz: The Great and Powerful. Today they put out the Instragram-feed-meets-kaleidoscope visual for the retro-grooving, mostly spoken-world single called “Love In The Old Days.” There’s a vague “Everybody Is Free (To Wear Sunscreen)” vibe but other than that it’s totally listenable. Scope it down below and check out some insight from Franco here:

“I’ll tell you this: it’s always weird to talk about a new thing,” James Franco says, stopping a previous train of thought in its tracks. “I know I do a lot of things. I’m very aware of that. I’m sure there are a lot of skeptical people, hearing about me doing music … To me, it all comes from a similar place. It’s like using different tools to express things in different ways.”

And here’s the EP’s cover art, which features Spring Breakers co-stars Selena Gomez, Vanessa Hudgens, Ashley Benson and Rachel Korine.
