“Back on the scene with no cracks in my screen”: That line is proof that DJ Quik is better at iPhone ownership than I am. The legendary Compton rapper and producer returns later this month with a new album called The Midnight Life, and one of the three advance single’s he’s shared is “Pet Sematary,” a slick and synthy shit-talk tirade that nobody else could’ve made. It’s new video, from director Topshelf Jr., is a laid-back trip through Quik’s hometown, and I like that most of the guys we see hanging out on corners and flashing gang signs are old.
