Grizzly Bear’s Daniel Rossen was recruited to write the score for the independent film directed by Matthew Yeager, Valedictorian, which appears to be a fairly bleak drama about an emotionally crippled musician living in Brooklyn. Rossen posted a first glimpse of the score to his Soundcloud and commented on the writing process, “Here’s a sample of the music I did for the film Valedictorian. The film is the story of a young man that slowly walks away from his life in New York and fades into the background of the city over the course of a year. It’s split up into 12 scenes, one for each month, and my task was to score a short piece of music to mark each passing month.” Valedictorian will be screened as part of the International Film Festival in Rotterdam. Listen to the piece that Rossen wrote for the month of July and watch a trailer for the film below.
