Lil Wayne Promises Free Weezy Album On Independence Day

Lil Wayne recently fell out with Cash Money Records, his longtime label, and it seems increasingly unlikely that his apparently-finished album Tha Carter V will ever see release. Instead, Wayne has spent the past few months touring clubs and working on a new LP called The Free Weezy Album. Wayne’s whole record-label situation remains unclear, but he recently joined the celebrity crew of Tidal co-owners, so maybe he’s got a little more power to release an album now. And on Tuesday night, Wayne played a show in Anaheim, promising the crowd that the new album, which might just be called FWA now, will be out 7/4. As in: Independence Day. Rappers’ release-date promises are always to be taken with a grain of salt, but this is the first we’ve heard of a release date, so it’s something. Watch fan-made video evidence below.

So: Was Wayne just standing on the bar for the whole show or what? It’s a little hard to make out from the video.
