Watch Chvrches Cover Justin Bieber’s “What Do You Mean?”

BBC

This week, Glasgow synthpop trio Chvrches are going to release Every Open Eye, their ridiculously good sophomore album. And given that Chvrches are great at coming up with cover tunes, they’re a perfect fit for BBC Radio 1’s Live Lounge, the show where artists come in and cover whatever songs are moving them at the moment. In their recent Live Lounge visit, Chvrches took on Justin Bieber’s shockingly strong comeback single “What Do You Mean?,” and it’s hard to imagine this thing being any more in our wheelhouse. In Chvrches’ hands, the song becomes a feathery, emotive dance-pop jam, which is to say that they pretty much turned it into a Chvrches song. (It wasn’t a huge leap, honestly.) Watch the performance below; it starts around the two-minute mark.

Every Open Eye is out now on Glassnote.
