Since his cancer diagnosis earlier this year, Surfer Blood guitarist Thomas Fekete has been through two surgeries and started chemotherapy. He’s been collecting money via donations and fundraising, and now he’s releasing an album of songs that he recorded in his bedroom while recovering. The collection is called Burner, and all of the proceeds will go towards his ongoing treatment.
“Some of these songs reflect on good times, days I’m able to walk on my own, talk, and function like a somewhat normal human being. Others remind me of barfing between vocal takes, wheel chairs, dilaudid withdrawals, and tears, from my family, my spouse, my dear friends,” Fekete wrote in a press statement. “However, like everything in my life, I did manage to find some humor in my situation, and I hope that helps level out all the heavy stuff.”
You can listen to one of the songs from the release, “Treason,” below.
Burner is available now digitally or on cassette via Joyful Noise Recordings.
