Lil Nas X Becomes Santa Claus In “Holiday” Teaser Featuring Michael J. Fox As Marty McFly

It may feel like a lost chapter in American history, but entire saga of “Old Town Road,” the little country-rap blockbuster that came out of nowhere and topped the Hot 100 for a record-shattering 19 weeks, unfolded just last year. Lil Nas X has not faded away in to nothingness; he just hasn’t released any new music lately. The young star hasn’t released any new music since the 7 EP came out in June of 2019 — or, if you’re being generous, since he dropped the “Rodeo” remix, with the other Nas, in February. Later this week, Lil Nas X will release his new single “Holiday.” Today, we get to see that single’s teaser trailer, which is bigger than what most movies offer.

If you were wondering how future Lil Nas X singles might connect to the “Old Town Road” cinematic universe, this teaser should answer those questions. The “Holiday” trailer picks up where the “Old Town” road video left off. Lil Nas X, the time-traveling cowboy, encounters a drunken Santa Claus who’s been kicked out of a bar, and he picks up a magic Santa hat that makes him the new Santa Claus. Also, a cinematic icon shows up with some advice for our new time-traveling Santa. On Friday, we will presumably learn what happens next. Watch the teaser below.

The inclusion of Michael J. Fox — a man who was once involved in a #1 single himself — raises all sorts of questions. If that’s Fox as Marty McFly, then has Marty decided to jump on Doc Brown’s time-train from the end of Back To The Future Part III? Is he just hiding out in the Old West because 2020 sucks so bad? Has he gone to the past to change the course of historical continuity, or does he just like it better there?

Anyway, Lil Nas X is also teasing the release of another new song called “Call Me By Your Name.” That’s one that he’s been previewing for a few months.

We will presumably hear all of it 11/13.
