I love this album. I think people expecting more of For Emma should understand that album was a snapshot in time, I don't think that sound could or should be recreated. Justin Vernon has done a magnificent job of growing and exploring as an artist. That, my friends, is what good music is all about! I'm in love!
Crawling Back to You is one of my favorite Tom Petty songs. To hear Justin Vernon sing it is so incredible and haunting. He almost sounds like a touch of Neil Young.
Time will tell, but I can remember as far back as OK Computer, with each release there being this aura of the possibility that the newest album might not be as amazing/earth-shattering/revolutionary as the last. Later, sometimes years, the dust settles because we've held our breath long enough to let it. I think Radiohead will always have these sort of albums where some claim genius and others cry foul. I think as time passes all their albums seem to age well like (I hate to make this comparison) wine....or cheese, but that's not as pretty sounding.
I'm not listening to the leak, but it's complete torture waiting for this album to come out. I've never been so excited for any album in my life. I can't wait for the stream on Friday. I just wish they were doing more tour dates, they don't have any in Portland last time I checked.
It seemed to me the crowd liked Congratulations, but Andrew was clearly on drugs. Best weekend ever, surprised to see Jay Z watching Beach House, maybe he'll sample them soon.
The lyrics are phenomenal, Matt writes in a unique, almost casual way that is poignant and emotional without being preachy or pandering. The composition of their songs is brilliant, violin, horns and amazing drums. Everything is so complex yet at the same time simple, truly they make art not just music.
