God this tugs at the heartstrings. Beasties and little kids? Awww...
I'd keep it in its original packaging always. Do you think Rubberjohnny would have much use for his own product?
I don't personally wear t-shirts much, but you make an excellent point. I guess as long as there is a corresponding prophylactic.
A song about fiscal matters? Yawn...I'm already old...I don't want my music to reflect this.
Is this like the Kings of Leon fashion line? No thanks, I like to keep my garments and my music separate. Except the Bonnie Prince Billy condom.
Man, I seriously love you guys. Rubberjohnny's, inappropriate MCA jokes and volatile Michael_, this blog's comments section feels like summer camp. I feel such a gamut of emotions whenever I read Stereogum.
I personally think that trans-gendered individuals are underrepresented as far as support from people that would normally say they are in support of LGBT persons. The T in that acronym should be equally accepted as the LG & B. Maybe it stems from a lack of education on the matter, but I have a close personal friend who is transitioning from male to female, and it's really remarkable the amount of distasteful reactions from people out there that claim to be supportive. I just hope one day this kind of article will be as arbitrary as "Tom Gabel Changes Bleaches His Hair." Who cares?
New Alliance has the number one album in the country.
I carry a riding crop at my desk just for little ankle biters like newalliance. ;)
Chocolate makes it all too easy? As opposed to things like, say, heroin?
I'm just a middle-aged receptionist, but shut the fuck up.
This makes me so sad. He seemed like the nicest guy and I've listened to their music my whole life. He was way too young :(
Am I supposed to read these comments with a cheesy Spanish accent?
Well I upvoted...downvoting that shit makes no sense.
Oh thanks so much for letting me know. I agree, it just occurred to me that I hadn't seen any HTC posts in awhile after reading this. Stereogum should do something to take its place, especially after all the aggression on this thread...I think we need it.
This is a little late, but is Stereogum not doing a Haunting the Chapel feature anymore?
You're right., I mean, I embrace differences in albums because a natural progression is preferable to doing the same old thing. Also, some albums are growers and really ahead of their time. I really try to give a few listens and digest new music the way I would some sort of mechanical text I don't understand yet know that it contains some important information. I guess with everything I heard after Adore, it seemed like Billy was just doing a confused interpretation of what he thought music should be, everything seemed so misguided. Like a 30-year old at a high school party. I'm looking forward to throwing aside that opinion with this new album. Also, 20 years ago? I'm fucking old, how did that happen?
These songs are better than Zeitgeist, and I still get this flutter of excitement at the thought of new Smashing Pumpkins, but in the end it's like everything I get nostalgic about , it never ends up being as good as my memories. Nothing will compare to all the summers I spent listening to Siamese Dream and sometimes I feel sad that there is even new material coming out because there just is no returning to that. But I think maybe it's my fault for comparing the new and old songs?
Oh, two of my most adored bands! What a treat!
Wow, you know your blog has arrived when you get this kind of diva-esque drama going on, this is way better than any of those cat fight reality show recaps that float around.
A Song for the No Breed
I was dissing Glee before it was cool.
Whenever I see her I always think, some music marketing person wanted to take the idea Joanna Newsom and make her more top-40's and pop. Did Urban Outfitters sponsor this?
That should be he rarely gets enough credit. Don't post while drinking lots.
I'm so happy to see Nick Drake on this list. He gets enough credit.
I feel so honored and happy! I don't know if that's a testament to how amazing this blog is and how integral it is to my life...or if I just need to get out more.
At least she seems to have some good sense about her. Also, Kurt was stoked when Beavis and Butthead made fun of him too. So there.
That's not such a bad picture of Shaun White.
Do the Evolution, Pearl Jam
He'd probably have a reality show, Rock of Courtney Love.
One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest.
This needs to be fact-checked. There are no worse bands.
I don't have anything productive to say regarding this crazy kid but I am happy that his music has brought on the most robust and entertaining Stereogum conversation I've seen in a couple years. I laughed at so many comments and noted that a lot of readers have awesome insight and ideas on music.
Noel: "I've got a champagne supernova near my thigh" Damon: "Woo Hoo"
Who knew knew an Adam Lambert fan had enough chutzpah to take home three worst comment awards? Maybe my favorite quote regarding Freddie Mercury will heal our chapped hides: "I'm sick of people comparing Freddie Mercury to God. I mean he's good...but he's no Freddie Mercury."
In your face? Oooh Jeopardy is getting sassy!
I like the first two songs. But I can't help but feel like I'm being marketed to as part of the whole manic pixie dream girl type fad when I watch the videos. Maybe she got too tied up in the "business" part of it and will later perfect her music on later albums.
