I thought I had no idea what it was, then it started playing and I realized I used to love this song. I would have been 7 when it hit, which makes total sense.
"Nile Rodgers and Chic" played the Hopscotch festival last year and killed it. They were playing songs Rodgers wrote/produced, which included everything from Chic to Bowie to Madonna to Duran Duran (and of course Daft Punk). That dude is prolific.
The first song on Toussaint's Southern Nights LP is hell of a lot more interesting (and funkier than a mosquito's tweeter)

Great shows - I was there for four damn hours and it was well worth it. Hope you guys do it again next year, preferably with 100% fewer hurricanes. Although the upside is that school was canceled, which is why my buddy and I brought our daughters. And now they're internet famous!
Wow, a 4 is generous. Also, note that George Harrison appeared to be on Lennon's side, given he played on "How Do You Sleep." This "live"-in-the-studio version is way better than the album version:

I realize Tom doesn't score things outside of the top 10, but "One Nation Under a Groove" has got to be a 10. Must have been tough to reach the top of the charts in 1978 if your name wasn't Gibb.

I'm pretty happy to have never heard this song before and to never have to hear it again.
When you're done listening to "Cissy Strut" here's an 11-minute Meters jam that somehow goes by faster than this 4-minute McCartney ham.
RIP Art Neville

That Midnight Special performance was pretty rocking. Was that Jeff Skunk Baxter on the congas?
Also, that intro...you know, Jose Feliciano, you got no complaints.
RE Funkadelic, the song "Maggot Brain" is basically a 10-minute (extremely awesome) guitar solo. For hard rock, the album MB includes this gem, which could easily be confused with Black Sabbath (until the singing starts)

Here's Daniel talking about his favorite albums in an article from a couple years ago. It really turned me on to the Julian Cope album.

This might be why I hate this song so, so much - I feel like it was in every commercial for a while (also, Bachman's whiny voice makes me want to shove an ice pick into my ear holes)
His solo stuff is terrible, but when he played with a group, he was pretty damn good. This is my favorite - Clapton, John Lennon, Keith Richards and Mitch Mitchell from the Experience

This has got to be an 8 or even 9 for me. McCartney is at his best when he gets weird

I was lucky enough to go to this, in 2004, at the same place this festival happened. I think you would have enjoyed it :)

From this article, it sounds like the label didn't promote it, so the band sued in order to be released from their contract.
At any rate, this is a good behind-the-scenes look at Laughing Stock:

His memoir "It's So Easy" is a must-read for any Guns N' Roses fan. Great stories about the band, his recovery from addiction, and being on a flight with Kurt Cobain days before he killed himself.
Great interview. Copper Blue was a landmark album for me - I bought it because it was #1 on the CMJ charts, which were published in Rolling Stone at the time. Since then, I was lucky enough to be at that tribute show and got to meet him when he did a book reading/concert for See a Little Light. The guy is a legend.
Great article, as always. A 5 feels about right for another song that could be a Jackson 5 ripoff.
I noticed in the video the single has a 1969 copyright. Any idea what took it so long to chart?
This is probably the Stevie Nicks video she mentioned. I was kind of obsessed with it myself a few years ago - it's amazing

Awesome - such an underrated band. I actually started listening to them based on Mark Lanegan including them in his "Baker's Dozen"

I find this song grating, and I think it's because of those damn Equal (artificial sweetener) commercials from the '80s and maybe '90s, like this one:
