There's a key difference though - you had at least some respect for your parents, and they had ways of punishing you. Neither of the those factors apply to this situation. They have absolutely no reason to change for you or any other internet stranger. It's sounds defeatist but I've fought this battle for years (I used to post on /mu/ back when you could still find some decent discussion among the shit) and ignoring them really is the only option.
That's the thing though, these are people who don't care if their actions are socially acceptable. If anything they pride themselves on being "honest" and "real". You will never win by engaging them in this way, the second you acknowledge them you lose. They've been acting this way for over a decade and it's not going to change.
I really like this album but you guys are laying it on super thick here. I mean I guess I don't have a problem with that, but it would be nice to see this level of intense praise aimed at smaller artists who can actually use this level of buzz. CRJ's gonna do just fine without Stereogum writing weekly defenses of her genius.
I know it's probably pretty annoying for any singer-songwriter-harp player to constantly be compared to Joanna Newsom, but I AM getting a Milk-Eyed Mender vibe from this and I can't think of higher praise than that.
This is a cool twist on the "Arcade Fire covering things" genre, nice to know there's still artists out there looking to push boundaries and keep our headlines fresh.
Look, full disclosure, I've been enjoying this album since it leaked yesterday. But I'm just a dude listening alone in his house. Posting about it to spread awareness, and then actually including a song from some tumblr stream is kind of fucked up.
Based on the iTunes previews (which are gone now, shocker), this is one of the more accessible songs on the album. Think more 'Tomorrow, In a Year' than 'Silent Shout'. Definitely don't go in expecting anything poppy.
Personally I think this song is amazing.
More bands should follow this model of album release. Start selling the vinyl at a show with absolutely no warning, wait a few hours, make official announcement saying it will be available everywhere in two weeks, watch everyone shit themselves. No fuss, no hyping, just great music.
I'm not going to pretend I understand my feelings toward Kitty Pryde, but I do know that I just listened to and enjoyed a remix of Call Me Maybe featuring a white teenage girl rapping over it, so that's certainly something.
I saw a midnight screening of Prometheus last night (LADIES), and I thought it was pretty fantastic. That said, I can definitely see why some people would dislike it. It leaves a lot to the imagination (and inevitable sequel) and the plot gets weaker and less coherent as time goes on. It's a very ambitious movie though, and it mostly pulls it off.
The last 30 seconds was, embarrassingly, one of the most poignant and beautiful representations of humanity's futile, lonely struggle against the universe I've ever witnessed.
Like, for real.
I'm not understanding the Ann-shouldn't-be-there criticism, since I'm pretty sure they solved that like last season when they made her an employee of the health department or whatever. Remember? She has her own office and that grumpy office-mate? Or am I forgetting something and looking like a jerk?
So does anyone want to actually talk about this? Or did no one listen to the leak? Some general talking points:
This is probably my third favorite Sigur Ros album, behind Agaetis and (). It might surpass () once I hear a better version.
So far my favorites are Ekki mukk, Varud, and Vardeldur. Even if the last one is just a new version of Luppulagid.
Your turn.
