Belew is polarizing (as he was in the band) however Discipline is an innovative and enduring record. (As an aside, I read somewhere that Tina Weymouth and Chris Frantz wanted to kick David Byrne out of Talking Heads and install Belew as leader; he wisely demurred.) Aside from that, Red is indubitably the best Crimson record. Although I vaguely remember liking Thrak, even though that sounds like phlegm rattling around in an old man's chest.
There were a couple Rockwell Knuckles songs I loved from a few years ago... especially "Every Angle"... nice to see him pop up again. Aside from that... I love Shadow but not sure how I feel about all the guests... His best work didn't have any of that.
Sad to read this news. I remember being blown away by his album "Horses and Trees," as well as the album he did with Fela Kuti. I also think it's worth noting that Baker was way ahead of his time in terms of appreciating and trying to build a wider audience for African music. Even if he was an ornery son of a bitch.
Just checking in to say the new Moon Duo is frigging awesome. Also Doom Uno is a solid anagram of their name. Also also: saw Blanck Mass on Monday and he was great. Would highly recommend.
p.s. fuck Billy Joel except Glass Houses.
